Sculpting in Virtual Reality with Alex Pavelescu

Through a series of two consecutive workshops, participants will learn how to create 3D projects utilising Gravity Sketch, an immersive collaborative platform that enables multiple users to create and share ideas in real time utilising virtual reality. Gravity Sketch is used for 3D modelling across multiple industries including architecture, design, arts and entertainment. 

Workshop 1: Introduction to Gravity Sketch [Sat 15 Nov]

This introductory session will present an overview of the software, including the different tools and brushes used to model in virtual reality. By the end of the session, participants will have gained a good understanding on how to transform a sketch into a 3D model. 

Workshop 2: Sculpting in 3D [Sat 22 Nov]

Through this follow up session, participants will develop a collaborative project in Gravity Sketch. By the end of the session, the group will have built a 3D sculpture based on the concept of the Greek mythological hybrid creatures known as Chimeras. 

What will be covered?

  • Basic understanding of Gravity Sketch 

  • Experience on 3D modelling in virtual reality

  • Basic knowledge on how to collaborate using Gravity Sketch

Do I need any particular skills?

This series of workshops is suitable for Beginners. Participants are expected to be familiar with virtual reality headsets and similar 3D software.

What do I need to bring?

Please bring pen and paper. The workshops will be led in Gravity Sketch via VR headsets provided by arebyte.

Alex Pavelescu

Alex is a Romania-born metamodernist artist, creative technologist, and performer based in London. His work merges medieval and sci-fi aesthetics to explore aspects of everyday life; being showcased at Southwark Park Gallery and workshops at Tate Modern. He holds a degree in Fine Art Sculpture from UAL and UNARTE, in addition to a Diploma from the Creative Computing Institute. Alex has worked as a 3D Specialist at Central Saint Martins and Junior Tutor in Computational Arts at Camberwell College of Arts.
