Take part in a BYOB (Bring Your Own Beamer) event on 28 Mar 2026 by submitting works responding to our 2026 - 2028 theme ‘REBOOT: Recoding Reality’.

Shortlisted works from the open call are presented using arebyte’s equipment, as short reels across multiple projectors. Artists do not need to own a projector or screen to apply. A limited number of artists may participate as walk-ins on the night by bringing their own projector, subject to space and capacity.

SUBMIT YOUR WORK

From this open call, two artworks of up to 3.5 min will be selected to be screened daily at set times for one month on arebyte Digital Art Centre’s media wall and website, with each artist nominating another artist to form a pair. The two artists selected will receive a £500 fee.

What is BYOB?

BYOB is an informal exhibition format where digital, video and moving-image works are shown through projection. Works are projected directly onto walls, floors or other surfaces in a shared space, creating a temporary, experimental exhibition environment rather than a traditional gallery display. Originally conceived by digital artist Rafaël Rozendaal, BYOB events are community focused, encouraging experimentation and peer exchange.

BYOB Theme: ‘REBOOT: Recoding Reality’

‘REBOOT: Recoding Reality’ (2026–2028) reimagines more equitable worlds where humans have agency over technology and connect with and care for their environments. Responding to social, political, economic and ecological crises that increasingly shape contemporary life, the programme addresses how people might reorganise into more sustainable ways of living, learning from alternative modes of existence and achieving technological agency.

The programme showcases digital artists and thinkers developing decentralised technological tools, approaching ecology through a planetary perspective and drawing on cross-cultural heritage. Rather than fixating on the damage done by capitalism, ‘REBOOT’ invites audiences to imagine alternative lifestyles and injects London’s cultural scene with positive perspectives on navigating contemporary society. Recognising Camden’s history as a centre for experimental art and technology labs in the 1960s, arebyte is reframed as an incubator and catalyst.
