What we do

arebyte Digital Art Centre in London explores how technology shapes contemporary culture through exhibitions and public programmes. Founded in 2013, arebyte works with artists across emerging technologies, including AI, game engines, and virtual environments, supporting the production and presentation of critically engaged digital art. Its programme spans international exhibitions and collaborations, alongside studios, residencies, workshops, and artist development, creating a space for research, public engagement, and new ways of experiencing digital art.

Over the last decade, arebyte has worked across London to activate buildings and provide affordable workspace for artists and creative businesses. In partnership with landlords, developers, private owners, and local authorities, we deliver flexible studio provision in a range of contexts - from new developments to underused or transitional spaces. Since its establishment, arebyte has supported over 1,700 creatives through its creative workspace and art programme, building a thriving community of  175 artists, makers, and designers across the city.

arebyte’s work has been presented in prominent cities including Basel, Berlin, New York, Paris, Shanghai, Seoul and Vienna. Notable collaborations with leading cultural institutions include Ars Electronica, HeK, Serpentine Galleries, Tate, the Victoria and Albert Museum and the Whitney Museum of American Art.

After 12 years in East London, the Digital Art Centre in Camden launched in 2025 marks a new chapter for the organisation, continuing its commitment to championing innovation and fostering creativity in digital art.

 
 

EXHIBITIONS PROGRAMME

Through immersive installations and interactive artworks,l audiences are invited to engage directly with digital art and emerging technologies. Working with artists across AI, gaming, virtual environments, networks, and computational systems, arebyte develops and presents new work exploring themes including surveillance, identity, systems of power, ecology, digital labour, and the social impact of technology. EVENTS, PERFORMANCES & PANEL CONVERSATIONS

Talks, screenings and performances expand arebyte’s exhibition programme through live discussion, interdisciplinary exchange, and shared experiences. Bringing together artists, researchers, writers, curators, and thinkers from across disciplines, the public programme creates space for dialogue around digital culture and contemporary technology.. From artist talks and screenings to live audiovisual and technology-driven performances, the programme explores how digital tools shape artistic expression, participation, and public engagement.


 
 

MEDIA WALL | ARTWORK DISPLAY

Visible from the street seven days a week, arebyte’s Media Wall presents a rotating programme of digital artworks in the public realm. Screenings take place daily at 2pm and 7pm, creating an accessible entry point into digital art for passers-by, local audiences, and visitors to the Digital Art Centre. The programme features moving image, animation, experimental media, and digital artworks by UK and international artists working across contemporary technologies and screen-based practices. By bringing digital art into public space, the Media Wall extends arebyte’s programme beyond the gallery and creates new opportunities for visibility, discovery, and everyday engagement with digital culture.


SPECIALISED STUDIO | PEER EXCHANGE & COMMUNITY

Our specialised digital studios support artists and creative technologists working across digital practices within a critically engaged environment. Based at arebyte Digital Art Centre, the studios combine affordable workspace with peer exchange, curatorial support, and professional development. Studio holders take part in monthly sessions led by arebyte Head of Programmes, including crits, work-in-progress discussions, and knowledge sharing. Artists are also introduced to invited curators and industry professionals through studio visits and networking opportunities, supporting visibility and connections within the sector. Embedded within a public-facing institution, the studios create space for community, dialogue, and experimentation - contributing to London’s wider digital art ecology.

DIGITAL TRAINING SESSIONS | SKILL DEVELOPMENT

arebyte runs a programme of digital training sessions led by artists, focused on hands-on techniques and tools for contemporary digital practice. Sessions range from introductory to advanced levels, covering coding, 3D environment design, generative AI, physical computing, sound editing, game engines, and virtual world-building. Designed for artists, creative technologists, and digital creators, the workshops support the development of technical skills and experimental approaches to digital making. Combining practical learning with critically engaged artistic perspectives, the programme provides participants with tools and methods that can be applied across creative, cultural, and commercial contexts.


RESIDENCIES | WORK DEVELOPMENT

The residencies programme invites eLondon-based artists working across digital and emerging technologies to develop new work within arebyte Digital Art Centre. Every six months, selected artists are intvited to join the specialised digital studios, embedding their practice within a wider community of artists, curators, and creative technologists. The residencies provide dedicated time and space for research, experimentation, and production across areas including AI, game engines, virtual environments, and interactive media. Connected to arebyte’s wider programme, the residencies foster dialogue, knowledge exchange, and public engagement, often leading to presentations, events developed within the context of the Centre.



HOTEL GENERATION | ARTIST DEVELOPMENT

Hotel Generation is arebyte’s artist development programme for emerging digital artists in the UK. Delivered annually through an open call, the programme supports four artists through curatorial mentoring, focused on developing new exhibition proposals and strengthening their practice.

Over three months, participants work closely with invited curators, gaining insight into exhibition-making and navigating the cultural sector. The programme culminates in a solo exhibition at arebyte Digital Art Centre, for one of the participant selected by a panel of industry experts. The programme aims to support emerging artists at a key stage in the development of their careers and nurthure the next generation of digital artists in the UK..

XYZ | ARTISTIC GAMING FOR YOUNG PEOPLE

XYZ is arebyte’s artistic gaming programme for children and young people aged 11–15, delivered through week-long workshops during school holidays. Led by digital artists and industry professionals, participants learn to build immersive worlds and tell stories through game design, exploring graphics, gameplay, sound, and exhibition design. 

Combining creative making with critical reflection, the programme explores how technology shapes identity, ethics, and human experience through gaming culture and emerging technologies. Participants also develop skills in presenting and pitching their work, supporting confidence-building, digital skills development, and pathways into the creative industries and digital art sector.
