3D Environment Design on Unity with Henrique Lázaro

  • arebyte Digital Art Centre 25-27 Camden Road London, England, NW1 9LN United Kingdom (map)

This workshop is an introduction to creating live simulations using the Unity game engine. Participants will learn how to build a 3D scene in Unity, automate it using the C# programming language, and make it interactive through the OSC protocol for non-conventional control. The workshop is designed for people who are new to Unity and programming.

In the first session [21 March], we will introduce the Unity Editor interface and tools to build a custom environment. The second session [28 March] will cover the fundamentals of C# programming to bring the scene alive. We will then use the OSC protocol to interact with the automations we created using our smartphones.

We will cover Unity and C# fundamentals, scene customisation, movement automation via scripts, useful logic for interaction and automation, sound integration, and how to use the OSC control protocol with Unity.

By the end of the session, participants will

  • Gain hands-on experience building and customising 3D environments in Unity

  • Develop a foundational understanding of C# programming  for automation and interaction

  • Learn how to integrate sound and non-conventional controllers using the OSC protocol

  • Understand creative workflows for building interactive and simulated environments

Do I need any particular skills?
